Kendrick Lamar - FEAR. 歌词／中文翻译

专辑《DAMN.》第十二首FEAR.分别描述了七岁、十七岁及二十七岁三个时期面对的恐惧，前后透过堂哥Carl的语音留言作为警惕，警惕他遇到的苦痛是神的惩罚，但也提醒他这一切的苦痛是因为神的爱。

注１）Poverty's paradise贫困天国
这段取样自歌曲“Poverty's paradise”「贫困天国」，是24-Carat Black于1973年的歌曲。主要在诉说一个在贫困边缘生活的人，面临无法养活家人的困境。就像Kendrick在这首歌诉说的恐惧，重回贫困的生活。

注２）[Voicemail: Carl Duckworth]
Kendrick的堂哥Carl Duckworth的语音留言出现在串流音乐平台的版本，CD则没有前后这两段语音讯息。在专辑第三首YAH.中也提到 “My cousin called, my cousin Carl Duckworth/Said know my worth/And Deuteronomy say that we all been cursed”就是指这段留言。留言中除了引用圣经，另外提及的是Hebrew Israelites的理念，直翻是希伯来以色列人，不过这是由美国黑人、拉丁人及美国原住民等有色人种组成，他们相信自己是以色列人的后裔。
（关于Hebrew Israelites我没有查的很详细，有兴趣的可以看看这个网站，如果有更深的了解欢迎跟我分享。）

注３）got a chip on your shoulder
因为受到不平的待遇，或因为自己不如人而感到不平衡、愤怒。前后并没有特别针对发生什么事，所以我只翻心烦意乱。

注４）(Reversed)（倒转）
这里出现了一段倒著播Kendrick唱的歌词，其实是跟前面的bridge唱一样的歌词，可以看下面的影片有倒回去过后听起来的样子。这段可能是代表他将时间倒转，下一段要唱的是他七岁时的回忆。

注５）buku 从法文beaucoup转变而来，指很多、大量的。

注６）County building's on my ass, tryna take my food stamps away
County是郡，小于州的行政区，所以猜测County Building就是指郡政府。Food stamps是粮票，政府会借此补助低收入户，让贫困家庭以低价购买粮票，换取比购买金额更大量的食物。Kendrick家可能不完全符合政府订定的低收入户标准，因此妈妈才会说粮票很可能会被政府拿回去。

注７）I beat yo ass if you tell them social workers he live here
如前述，Kendrick家可能不在政府提供的福利、补助范围内，例如双亲的收入，也有可能是他们家向政府申报为单亲家庭，借此确保能获得补助，因此妈妈叫Kendrick不准让社工知道其实爸爸跟他们住在一起。

注８）Life's a bitch
表达人生总是会不顺与痛苦，或者也是委婉表达“Fuck it.”管他的，人生还不就是这么一回事。

注９）candy house 糖果屋
这像是个小朋友讨糖吃的地方，其实就是指在街头烟酒、甚至毒品贩卖的据点。

注１０）I'll prolly die because these colors are standin' out
在帮派林立的街头，不同帮派会有各自的代表颜色，通常都会穿著自己帮派颜色的衣服（例如圣安地列斯主角帮派是绿色，敌对帮派是紫色，拉丁人帮派是黄色）。即使没有加入帮派，也得注意自己所在的街区，以免因为穿著敌对帮派颜色的衣服惹上麻烦。

注１１）I'll prolly die at these house parties, fuckin' with bitches
在Kendrick的专辑good kid, m.A.A.d city第一首Sherane a.k.a Master Splinter's Daughter的故事，他在派对认识了一个女孩，当女孩邀Kendrick去她家时其实是陷害了他，让他被帮派分子攻击。

注１２）I'll prolly die from one of these bats and blue badges
Bats指的是警棍，blue badges则是警察的蓝色胸章，也就是说他认为自己可能会死在警察手下。

注１３）Body slammed on black and white paint, my bones snappin'
警车通常是黑白相间，指警察逮捕挣扎的嫌犯时，常会把嫌犯押在警车上铐上手铐的动作。

注１４）Accumulated 10 times over throughout the years
Kendrick描述了他七岁、十七岁及二十七岁的回忆，以每十年为阶段，诉说当年面对的恐惧。

注１５）Is it for the moment, and will he see me as Job?
旧约圣经中的约伯是一位生活富裕的人，他也是个非常服从上帝的人。撒旦挑战上帝说约伯如果失去财富、土地、至亲及健康一定会离开上帝，于是撒旦夺走他的一切、使他陷入贫困与疾病，但约伯却仍坚信上帝，因此上帝将他的一切加倍还给他。
Kendrick二十七岁时已经经历过good kid, m.A.A.d city带来的成功并因为TPAB引起巨大的轰动，而眼前的富裕让他思考上帝会不会像对待约伯一样，允许撒旦考验他对神的信心，就如同他这时最大的恐惧，一夕失去身边的一切。

注１６）Section 8
The. Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments Program美国住宅法第八节住宅援助支付方案，补贴居住在私有住宅的低收入户居住成本的方案，为低收入家庭提供最经济实惠的住宅资源。（我看到法条规章就头痛所以是复制贴上的，还请原谅。）
也有网友说可能是指Kendrick更早期的专辑Section 80，不过这样我就不太确定怎么解释了。

蕾哈娜曾经对他的会计师提告，由于会计师的失误而使她在一年内失去九百万美元（约2.7亿台币）。

注１８）get ill and fill ratchets with a lil' somethin'
Ratchet在饶舌中有用来形容较粗野的女人，而lil somthin’可以是较含糊地指性爱。

注１９）What they hear from me would make 'em highlight my simplest lines
这段很可能就是在BLOOD.也讨论过的，也就是FOX新闻针对Alright的歌词 “And we hate popo, wanna kill us dead in the street fo' sho'”认为这是要引起人们对警察的反感，忽视了Alright这首歌表达的意义。
另外也有可能指歌迷在听歌时，其实可能会过度解释每一句歌词。

注２０）I'm talkin' fear, fear that it's wickedness or weakness
这张专辑不断提到wickedness or weakness，让我们能够想想这张专辑的一体两面。

注２１）What happens on Earth stays on Earth
专辑第五首ELEMENT.就以这句话开头，也有在最后一首Duckworth出现，可能是表达Kendrick希望自己的作为能影响世界。

注２２）Within fourteen tracks, carried out over wax
这张专辑就是共十四首歌，wax可指黑胶唱片。可能是希望大家能用黑胶听看看这张专辑。

注２３）Verse two says, “You only have I known of all the families …”
引用圣经阿摩司书第三章二节，Carl用这段经文想告诉Kendrick他遇上困境的原因，也提醒他身为Hebrew Israelites，以色列人后裔应遵守神的诫命。

注２４）shalom 为希伯来文的招呼语，代表祝福人平安。

这首歌描述了从小到大经历过的恐惧，七岁害怕母亲的打骂、十七岁害怕在街头生活伴随的死亡、二十七岁害怕身边的一切不知不觉消失。我非常佩服这首歌的真实感，Kendrick很详细的交代他的感受，母亲的每一句责备都历历在目，同时他在贫困中生活的童年也可以从中看出端倪。十七岁的他了解在街头生活的危机，青少年毒品泛滥、卷入帮派纠纷，每天出门能不能平安回家都是问题。而二十七岁的他已经是饶舌界巨星，其实一夕致富的人很容易快速跌到谷底，如果因为自己不懂得管理大量金钱、或是被有心人士骗走，都可能使他又回到童年的贫苦的日子。

这就是这张专辑不同于前作的，从之前为众人发声，到这张专辑细腻地说出自己的故事。
