埃航墜機，157人喪生，看到事故消息，我表示非常震驚。波音公司表示，「Boeing is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the passengers and crew on Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, a 737 MAX8 airplane,」（波音公司對埃航737 MAX8客機ET302航班上乘客和機組人員的遇難深感悲痛。）

在此，我們向遇難人員表示沉痛哀悼，向遇難者家屬致以深切慰問。（We express our deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathy to the bereaved families；We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew on board）

紐約時報上發了一篇文章，Boeing Faces Questions About Its New 737 Max Jets After Ethiopia Crash埃航墜機波音再受質疑，中國航空公司停飛737 Max

原文：An Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max 8 bound for Nairobi crashedminutes after take-off on Sunday, killing all 157 people on board, including 8 Chinese.

譯文：10日，衣索比亞航空一架飛往內羅畢的波音737 MAX8起飛後不久墜毀，機上157人全部遇難，其中包括8名中國人。

1. 這句中bound for 表示飛往某地/開往某地，它的完整形式應該是that is bound for，這句里是形容詞作後置定語，我們還可以用en route to來進行同義替換；

2. Nairobi譯為內羅畢，是肯亞（Kenya）的首都，曾經在CATTI考試中出現過，注意不要譯錯；

3.不久後：可以譯為minutes/soon/just/immediately after；

4. crash可以作不及物動詞和名詞，都表示墜機，比如下面這兩句，

The plane crashed mysteriously near the island of Ustica. 那架飛機在烏斯蒂卡島附近神秘墜毀了。The crash occurred when the crew shut down the wrong engine.機務人員關錯了引擎，隨即飛機墜毀；

也可以表示撞車，The crash happened in thick fog 濃霧中發生了撞車。也可以加ed作形容詞，如a crashed car一輛撞毀的汽車；

還表示崩潰：

When the market crashed, they assumed the deal would be cancelled. 當時市場崩潰，他們認為交易會被取消。

還可以作名詞，表示巨響，咔嚓聲，如：

The mirror dropped and broke with a crash. 啪嚓一聲，鏡子掉在地上摔碎了。

5. 本句中的take-off意為起飛，我們常見的是它的動詞形式take off，還有一種是在下文中會出現的名詞形式takeoff，而從某地起飛通常會使用take off from someplace，如其他外媒上是這麼說的：An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed just after taking off from Addis Ababa；

也可以是leaving，這次共有三名國際會議口譯員協會（AIIC）會員在事故中遇難，對此我們深表惋惜，深感悲痛。AIIC官網寫道：AIIC colleagues were passengers on the Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 which crashed leaving Addis Ababa.AIIC同事也在從亞的斯亞貝巴（Addis Ababa）起飛後墜毀的衣索比亞航空公司ET302航班上。

6. 在killing all 157 people on board, including 8 Chinese這一部分中，killing為動詞ing形式表結果，on board意為在飛機上，也可以表示在船/火車/甲板上；kill+數字+people表示死亡人數，還可以用claiming 157 lives，或causing 157 deaths。

如果單獨說死亡人數，可以用the mortality of sth is 來表示，例如：The mortality of this air crash was 157; 或者說sth cause+數字+death(s)，例如：This terrible fire caused 25 deaths; 也可以直接說數字+died in sth,如：136 people died in the earthquake last night；

killing all 157 people on board, including 8 Chinese：裡面中國人直接是Chinese或Chinese citizens。其他報道裡面是這樣寫的killing all 149 passengers and eight crew members aboard，這裡的crew members也可以說crew ，就是指機組人員、機務人員。

7. 還需要注意的是飛機的表達方式：可以直接說航空公司名稱加飛機型號，如An Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max 8（MAX8這樣合在一起也可以），也可以加上plane，jet（an Ethiopian Airlines jet），也可以加上航班flight（the Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 ）;

原文：The trouble appeared to begin almost immediately after takeoff. The pilots told air traffic controllers that they were having technical problems. And the plane seemed to repeatedly climb and dive before a final plunge. The Ethiopian crash occurred just outside the country』s capital, leaving a smoking crater where investigators combed over the grim scene. Much about the cause of the crash remains unknown and will take weeks to investigate, and Boeing and the National Transportation Safety Board are sending teams to the crash site.

1. sth/sb appear to do 是一個很常見的句型，翻譯為某事或某人似乎怎麼樣，和後面出現的the plane seemed to repeatedly climb and dive中的seem to 是可以相互替換的；

2. air traffic controllers是空中交通管制員，air traffic control則是空中交通管制；

3. were having technical problems裡面的have需要意譯，翻譯為遇到了技術問題。technical技術（上）的，技能的，工藝的。例如：technical problem技術問題；technological科技的。例如：technological progress 科技進步；

4. plunge作動詞，可以用來描述價格或是數額的突然下跌，如The banks profits plunged by 87 per cent. 銀行的利潤驟降了87%；

也有plunge into sth 的用法表示陷入某事之中（不快的事）如：The country plunged deeper into recession.（那個國家進一步陷入經濟蕭條之中）；漢譯英翻譯課程裡面也遇到過這個單詞，比如「鴉片戰爭後，中國陷入內憂外患的黑暗境地But with the Opium War of 1840, China was plunged into the darkness of domestic turmoil and foreign aggression」。

也可以作名詞，plunge的英語解釋是a steep and rapid fall，所以也就是crash的意思

5. before a final plunge直到最後的墜落：before靈活翻譯，經常翻譯為然後、之後、最後、直到最後。

6. outside the country』 capital翻譯為該國首都的郊外：outside可以表示在外面，A queue forms outside Peters study 彼得書房外面排起了隊。也可以表示郊外，這在CATTI和MTI英譯漢裡面是高頻辭彙。比如西外MTI真題裡面就考過這個：A group associated with a Gates investment company has invested $80 million in a high-tech planned development outside Phoenix. 一家蓋茨投資公司旗下的集團，已經在菲尼克斯郊外的高科技規劃項目中投入了8000萬美元。

7. 這裡的leaving也是動詞ing形式表結果，和上文的killing是同樣的用法；

8. crater [?kre?t?(r)] 本意為彈坑，火山口，這裡用來表示飛機墜機後在地上砸出的坑；smoking 冒煙的。

9. comb [k??m] 作名詞時是梳子，作動詞時意為梳（頭髮）。在這句話中意思是搜尋，常見的搭配是comb through/over sth（someplace）for sth，意為在某地仔細搜尋某物,例如：The police combed through/over the crime scene for evidence.

10. grim scene ：grim表示恐怖的，陰森的。 scene也可以說site，比如後面的the crash site墜機現場

11. Much about the cause of the crash remains unknown and will take weeks to investigate 的主語是Much about the cause of the crash，後面有兩個並列的謂語動詞remains和will take；

take有兩種句型，意為某人花費多長時間做某事，一是it可以作形式主語，it take(s) sb sometime to do sth，如It took me almost half a day to finish the final assignment；

二是sth take(s) sb sometime to do，sth其實是do的賓語，比如The final assignment takes me half a day to finish. 還比如今天的原文Much about the cause of the crash will take weeks to investigate，其中Much about the cause of the crash 是investigate賓語。

12. National Transportation Safety Board 美國國家運輸安全委員會；

原文：On Monday morning in China, most Chinese carriers stopped using the dozens of Boeing 737 Max jets that they had acquired andbegan flying Boeing 737-800s on the same routes. The Civil Aviation Administration of China then issued an order for the mandatory grounding of Boeing 737 Max planes by Chinese carriers. Flight-tracking websites showed that Chinese airlines were starting to substitute Boeing 737-800s on Monday morning on routes on which they had previously operated a Boeing 737 Max.

譯文：周一上午，大多數中國航空公司已經停止使用其購買的數十架波音737 Max 8飛機，開始在同一航線上使用波音737-800。中國民用航空局隨後發布命令，要求中國航空公司強制停飛波音737 Max 8。飛行跟蹤網站顯示，周一上午，中國航空公司已經在原來使用波音737 Max 8的航線上使用波音737-800進行替代。

1. 這句中的carrier意思是航空公司，比較常見的說法是airline；

2. stop using 意為停用，我們可以發現BBC報道使用suspend use of來表示停用: China carriers, Ethiopian Airlines suspend use of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft after crash; 在下文中還看到ground這個詞，作動詞時，它的意思是使停飛，阻止...起飛，如: Airlines ground Boeing 737 MAX planes after Ethiopian air crash.(來源：CNN)；

還有的報道稱Chinese aviation regulator had taken the planes out of service，take sth out of services 也是停用；根據後面的began flying，「停用」其實也可以翻譯為stop flying...停飛。

3. Civil Aviation Administration of China 中國民用航空局；

4. issued an order for sth by sb：是固定表達，表示發出命令，要求某人干某事。The Civil Aviation Administration of China then issued an order for the mandatory grounding of Boeing 737 Max planes by Chinese carriers. 中國民用航空局隨後發布命令，要求中國航空公司強制停飛波音737 Max 8。

這句也可以說The Chinese aviation regulator in its announcement ordered its airlines on Monday morning to ground all of the country』s 96 aircraft in operation.注意：Airplanes也可以說aircraft/planes。Boeing aircraft或Boeing airplanes或Boeing planes，注意aircraft是個集合名詞，單複數同形，所以這裡是aircraft，而不是aircrafts。

5. mandatory [m?nd?t(?)ri] 強制的，法定的，義務的；雖然compulsory也表示義務的，強制的，但Compulsory 常出現在教育，工作或公司運營等類似的語境中，比如:compulsory education義務教育，compulsory military service義務兵役；而mandatory 這個詞，作為形容詞的時候，它通常指因為有法律或條款規定,是必須履行的，是法定的,是有約束力的，mandatory 還有許多與法律有關的固定表達，比如：mandatory test強制性測試，mandatory sentence法定判決；

6. Flight-tracking websites 航班查詢網站

7. substitute 代替，替換，常見的搭配有substitute A (for B)用A代替B，和replace相反。在這個語境下，substitute 其實就是began flying...

8. on routes on which：on which是定語從句，修飾routes，route表示航線。

9. Operated：表示使用，類似於use、fly。
