complain = make a complaint？？？！！！（考官很生气，后果很严重

前言

这是一条插播！

前几天，一个苏格兰朋友给我发了一条信息：May I make a suggestion for your next post…

当时的我，心突然一紧，脑中弹幕开始发射：

我哪个词写错了？

我哪个意思写错了？

是排版不清楚吗？

……

但是，我还是从容地回了：yes（都是好奇心的错

结果，那个suggestion是，下一条推送麻烦写 complain 和 make a complaint 的区别！！！

哈哈哈……我的心歘（chua）地就落下了！Of course! Why not!

直接划重点：

to complain，主要是「抱怨，埋怨，发牢骚」；在表示「投诉」的意思时，程度没有那么高，顶多像是「提提意见」的投诉，或者就是生气发牢骚时的口头禅「我投诉你！」，但说完就完了，不一定会有什么实际的行动，或希望有具体的结果。

to make a complaint，在表示「投诉」时，可跟complain不在一个段位。当你make a complaint的时候，遇到的是比较严重的问题，且你投诉的目的是希望问题得到解决，是要求有处理结果的！所以，to make a complaint是非常严肃、认真、也可能是书面的正式投诉。

一句话记住二者的区别：

You can complain about the weather but you cant make a complaint about the weather.

再举一个栗子：

You can complain to the receptionist in the hotel if your room is not clean, but you could also ask to speak to the manager and make a complaint about this matter.
