PART 3 SECTION B

There is of culture another view, in which natural and proper in an intelligent being, appears as the ground of it. Culture is then properly described as having its origin in the love of perfection. Culture places human perfection in an internal condition. A growing and a becoming is the character of perfection, and it coincides with religion. If culture is a study of perfection, it is clear that culture has a very important function, which is particularly important in our modern world, to fulfill for mankind. The pursuit of perfection is the pursuit of sweetness and light, and the passion for making them prevail. The great men of culture are the true apostles of equality, who humanize culture.

PART 4 SECTION A(出處:高級英語課文原文)

PART 4 SECTION B

  1. For more than two thousand years, the Silk Road, as the most critical road of traffic between China and the West, carries the association and dialogues between China and the world, and highlights the open cultural character and immortal civilization achievements of ancient China. Today, the term "Silk Road" has gone beyond its historical meaning and became a spirit and symbol, providing a valuable model for peace and development in todays world.(出處:網路)
  2. To speak of American literature, is not to assert that it is completely unlike that of Europe. Broadly speaking, America and Europe have kept step. At any given moment the traveler could find examples of both the same architecture, the same styles in dress, the same books on the shelves. Ideas have crossed the Atlantic as freely as men and merchandise, though sometimes more slowly.

  3. When human beings began to ask for something from nature and even tried to conquer it as they know more and more about it. As the situation intensified, the harmony and balance of nature were rudely destroyed. There existed desertification and catastrophic flood. Even air and water were polluted. The environment which we depend on living was destroyed.
