　　今天的故事是講一個小姑娘和一隻仙鶴 (crane) 的故事，這個小姑娘叫蓮花 (lotus)。在某一年的冬天，蓮花在經歷了一場疾病之後，失去了聲音 (voice)。從此以後，周圍的小朋友們都覺得她是一個怪物，不願意跟她一起玩。只有相依爲命的爺爺 (grandfather) 理解蓮花。

　　蓮花和爺爺賴以生存的湖 (lake)，由於人類的過度開墾，逐漸變成了荒原。直到有一天，出現了一隻天鵝...蓮花會和仙鶴之間發生什麼樣的故事呢？

　　第一段

　　Above the long, curvedneck, its head was crowned with a red top like a dazzlingruby.

　　在又長又彎的脖子上，它的頭頂是紅色的，就像一顆耀眼的紅寶石。

　　Acrane!

　　一隻仙鶴！

　　Lotus shouted silently.

　　蓮花內心吶喊到。

　　She had heard many stories about the endangered cranes from Grandpa,

　　她從祖父那裏，聽說過很多關於這種瀕危滅絕的仙鶴的故事，

　　but she had never seen one.

　　但是她從來沒有見過一隻。

　　They had stopped coming because the wetland was disappearing.

　　因爲自從溼地逐漸消失後，它們就不再來這裏了。

　　BLAM!

　　嘣！

　　A loud gunshot startled her.

　　一聲響亮的槍聲嚇了她一跳。

　　Lotus turned around and saw a man with a hat made out of reeds

　　蓮花轉過身，看到一個頭戴用蘆葦做的帽子的男人

　　aiming his barrel straight at the bird!

　　用他的槍標準這隻仙鶴！

　　Lotus couldn't utter any sound,

　　蓮花一聲也發不出來，

　　but she crouched down and drummed her metal pail with her reed cutter,

　　但是她蹲了下來，用她割蘆葦的刀敲打着金屬銅，

　　making a noise likethunder.

　　製造出像雷聲一樣的噪音。

　　The hunter fled, dropping his hat and never looking back.

　　獵人逃走了，丟了帽子，再也沒有回頭。

　　Lotus hurriedly waded across the wetland toward the bird.

　　蓮花匆匆穿過溼地朝這隻鳥走去。

　　第二段

　　When the crane spotted her, it tried to run but collapsed instead.

　　當仙鶴看到她時，試圖逃跑但是卻摔倒了。

　　Lotus gathered up the heavy bird.

　　蓮花抱起這隻很沉的鳥。

　　Hold on.

　　挺住。

　　Hold on, please, she pleaded silently.

　　求你挺住，她默默的祈禱着。

　　She tottered home to Grandpa, who had rescued other animals before.

　　她蹣跚地回到家找爺爺，爺爺曾經救過其他的動物。

　　Carefully, Grandpawrappedthe bird's wound.

　　小心翼翼的，爺爺爲鳥包裹上傷口。

　　"He's lost a lot of blood, but he will survive," he said.

　　“它失去了太多的的血，但是它會活下去的，” 他說道。

　　Lotus trusted Grandpa, but still she was worried.

　　蓮花很相信爺爺，但是她仍然很擔心。

　　The crane barely moved and didn't open his eyes,

　　仙鶴幾乎動不了也睜不開眼睛，

　　not even when Grandpa fed him rice soup.

　　甚至當爺爺給它喂米湯時，它也沒有動過。

　　Lotus tucked the bird into the softnestshe had made for him

　　蓮花把仙鶴放進特意爲它製作的柔軟的小窩裏

　　and gently stroked him,

　　輕輕的搖着它。

　　just like Grandpa used to do when she was sick.

　　就像以前蓮花生病，爺爺做的一樣。

　　For two days Lotus watched the bird anxiously and hardly slept.

　　連着兩天，蓮花焦急的看着仙鶴，幾乎沒怎麼睡覺。

　　On the third day, she fell asleep by the nest.

　　在第三天，她靠着小窩睡着了。

　　She awoke when she felt the air stir.

　　當她感到空氣震動後就醒來了。
