What a fabulous Champange Brunch Set! I've never had.

Before I traveled Hong Kong, I thought that I should visited certain Michelin star awarded restaurants especially for French cuisin, since Hong Kong is a gourment paradise and I'm intrigued with tasting exotic and delicate food. Unfortunately, the Mechiline-starred restaurants which I am earger to visit were fully booked at that moment. As a result, I tried spending time on surfing the Internet and collecting some information, then I decided to book Upper Modern Bistro which is not listed in the Michelin Red Guide.

Why the Upper Modern Bistro is my choice? I think there are 3 reasons. First, this restaurant is opend by Chef Philippe Orrico, the former executive Chef of St George at Hullet House. Secondly, the interior design of this place is pretty attractive and remarkable. Lastly, I prefer bistro style to fine dining one.

On that day, I was luckily assigned a nice seat because I almost could see the whole view of this restaurant by the front wide mirror. In particular, I apparently saw all chefs working at the open kitchen. Honestly, it's really an exciting and incredible experience and it made me recall my previous cook career.

While I checked the menu, I thought the Brunch Set might be the best choice since it includes several starters, a main course, and desserts. Also, in order not to miss any unique dishes and feel regret, both my friend and I decided to order Brunch Set as our meal.

Let's start to indulge in mouth-watering and breathtaking dishes. Bon appétit.

In total, we had seven appetizers. The first three starters are foie gras creme brulee with poppy seed, Brittney oyester, and salmon bruschetta. The foie grase creame brulee is super creamy and tastes nice. It went perfect with crostini. If you are the fan of foie grase, I trust you must adore Chef Orrico's goose liver.

The remaining appetizers are fish salad, tomatos & berries salad. I enjoyed these two salads very much due to the dressings. They seems like avocado flavor and berry flavor respectively. Besides, I found differnt fresh berries in the salad, such as bluebeery, strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant, etc. After that, mussel and pig's trotter are the last two starters which are warm dishes. I loved the mussel very much as I could smell the aroma of thyme herb and I could dip the bread with the tasty white wine sauce.

Following the stunning starters, I selected the daily fish as my main course since I am usually keen on fish more than poultry, pork, or beef. The fish went with fresh scallop lemon sauce. Looks superb, but I wish this fish could be seasoned with more salt. This is my first time to taste the baby yellow patty pan squash which I've ever seen in the vegetable shop overseas but I've never eaten it. For me, its texture and flavor seems like zucchini.

For desserts, we're able to pick three flavors up on the tray. Then, I had panna cotta, pistachio mousse, and tiramisu. There is no doubt that the flower decorated on the panna cotta can be eaten. It's a little pity that I have no idea how to describe and share its savour with you guys. Probably, I should taste more different food with flowers. Truly, it's my first time to try.

All in all, Upper Modern Bistro is a restaurant worth visiting. For me, it's a pleasant and impressive memory while I traveled Hong Kong first time. I'm sure that visiting Upper Modern Bistro will be one of my purposes to go to HK again. Wish I can have chance to taste Chef Orrico's signature dishes soon.
