It becomes more and more certain that US and China are inching closer and closer to a new cold war. Such a cold war will have largely dire consequences for the future development of science and technology in China since the Chinese scientists will become more and more isolated from their peers in the western countries and they will likely be requested to serve the country first to focus on defense and its related industries. It means that the basic science research will suffer the most and the overall advance of science and technology will slow down drastically. Due to the nature of the current political system and the nature of Chinese traditional culture, the future of Chinas science and technology is bleak.
