1. 從詞義上看：look 通常表示主動地、有意識地「看」，側重指看的動作行為；see 通常指看的客觀結果，即「看見」；watch 也指有意識地看，但往往指仔細地盯著看事物的變化。如：　　

I looked hard but saw nothing. 我認真看，但什麼也沒看見。　　

The cat is watching the mouse. 貓兒盯著老鼠。　

If you watch carefully, you will see how I do it. 你要是仔細觀察，你就能看出我是怎樣做的。　

2. 從是否及物來看：　　

(1) look 通常為不及物動詞，若需後接賓語，其後須接介詞 (如at, for, after 等)。如：　

Look at the blackboard. 看黑板。　　

He is looking for his wallet. 他在找錢包。　　

有時 look 也單獨使用，位於句首，表示引起別人的注意。如：　　

Look! There is a cat. 看！有一隻貓。

(2) see 可用作及物或不及物動詞。如：　　

It was so dark I could hardly see (it). 太黑了，我幾乎看不見(它)。　　

(3) watch 通常為及物動詞。如：　　

Did you watch the tennis match? 你觀看了網球賽嗎?　　

有時也用作不及物動詞。如：　　

A：Won"t you sit down and join us in the game? 坐下來跟我們一起玩好嗎?　　

B：No, I prefer to watch. 不，我喜歡看。

3. 從時態上看：look 和 watch 可用於進行時態，而 see 作為感官動詞，一般不用於進行時態。

I was looking for my book then. 那時我正在找我的書。

They are watching a wonderful movie. 他們正在看一場精彩的電影。

We will see you soon. 我們很快就會見面的。

4. 從表達習慣上看：看戲、看電影、看話劇、看演出等通常用動詞 see (有時也可用 watch，但不如用 see 常見)；另外，看展覽、看風景、看望朋友等也通常要用動詞 see；看電視、看比賽等通常用動詞 watch；看圖片、看黑板等，通常用動詞 look at。

這三個「看」的區別，不容易混淆，掌握幾個常見的搭配用法。更詳細的，不如看詞典。

（一）look有意的、短暫的看，常見搭配有：

①take/have a look看一眼，瞪一眼，瞅了一眼，瞧一瞧，看一下，掃一眼，瞟一下。

②(take a) look at 對著...看一下，注意了。可插副詞：look up at向上看，仰視一下。look down at 往下看，俯視一眼。look closely at 靠近看一眼，盯了一眼，凝視一陣子。look carelessly at 粗看一下。look carefully at仔細看一眼。look bravely at 壯壯膽子看一眼。

③ (take a) look to 關注(=attend to)，打量。插副詞：look up and down to 對...上下大量一番。take an evil look to her不懷好意地把她打量了一番。

（二）see是無意的、視覺上的看。有兩套意思：看到/目擊/目睹/見證，清楚/明白/意識到。常見的搭配有：

①Yesterday evening I saw a girl dancing seve by a street.昨晚我無意中看到一姑娘在街旁跳鬼步舞。

②The 19th century saw the great revolution of computers developing.二十世紀見證了計算機發展的偉大革命。

③Some day, time will see the correct or not of wide relativity theory.終有一天，時間會見證廣義相對論的正確與否。

（三）watch是責任的、持續的看。意思有：值守、監視、觀賞。常見的搭配有：

①on watch值班，放哨，執勤。He helps me on watch tomorrow.明天他幫我值班。

②watching flowers 賞花。watching landscapes 看風景。I"d like to watch TV.我想看電視。

③The soldiers were watching radar screens 那幾個士兵正在監控雷達顯示屏。

附：象形構成法與混成構詞法。

①look有「oo」，兩隻眼睛，瞪得圓圓。再如：book書冊，mood情緒，good好東西/貨物。

②see, 有「ee」，眯著的兩隻眼睛。再如：seek尋覓/查找，peep窺視/偷看，keep看守/注視，seem看起來是/似乎是。

③watch=w/warden(協管員)+atch/catch(抓住/捕獲)。再如：match=m/mate(夥伴)+atch/catch(抓住)=抓住夥伴，引申為匹配/比賽。
