太阳谷
太阳谷又名嫦娥谷，位于通往新养女湖 和乌山泥火山的途中。这里的景色令人赞叹，因处于恶地，谷中又有不同颜色的水池，因此出现奇景。 奇形怪状的岩石加上被其岩所包围的水池，形成他处没有的景色。非常建议来此观赏大自然的神工鬼斧之自然景色。
「嫦娥谷」位于乌山顶泥火山 至鸡冠山的途中，是一个形态完整的月世界恶地形，亦有「新太阳谷」之称。其原为浊水溪的上游峡谷，农民于民国82~83年间开始筑坝作沟，筑坝之后的水塘会引来水鸟嬉戏，呈现宁静安详的美感，目前高雄县政府于此设置景观平台供游客观赏休憩之用。
开发者的推土机如同太阳谷河谷地区，亦已入侵此地区，河谷地应为公有的水利地，但现已被入侵，且侵占为农田。农民的经济生活需求与奇特自然景观的永续发展，在燕巢地区不断上演著角力的戏码，如果乡民没有将一级产业活动转型为较具观光效益的生态旅游产业，则泥岩恶地的特殊景观势必将不断的消逝。本区的恶地地形面积较小，成一环状山谷，此景点为近几年乡公所大力推展的景点。
表层有霜白氧化镁及硫酸盐薄层，在月光下会映射出银色光芒。如此美景，应重视违法开发的问题，防范于未然，才能永续保有。

鸡冠山

以山形来看可说是台湾最奇特的鸡冠山，山岭薄薄的矗立在山顶上，「横看成岭侧成峰」的景致十分奇趣。形成这般奇特景观的主因，其实是坚硬的直立石灰岩混合在疏松的青灰岩中，经过长年累月风吹日晒雨淋的侵蚀，较疏散的青灰岩逐渐被冲刷，仅留下坚硬孤立的石灰岩层，才造成了今日的奇观。如果您是个健行爬山的爱好者，天性喜欢追寻大自然的美景奇观，那就千万不能错过这个在高雄燕巢独有的美景。
鸡冠山形成的主要原因，是坚硬的石灰岩直立混合在疏松的青灰岩中，经过岁月的冲刷，较疏轻的青灰岩逐渐被侵蚀，而留下空硬孤立石灰岩层，称为「烙铁峰」。山脉略为东北、西南走向，山顶的棱线宽度有时仅容一人站立。

新养女湖 不属于泥火山自然生态保留区范围，而是私人产业，业主为方便游客观赏，在湖周围设置观赏台和休憩设施，离停车场不远处也设有小型观赏亭，同时进行整建景观步道，将更方便游客观赏特殊的自然景观。

泥火山

乌山顶泥火山 位于高雄师范大学后方，面积4.89公顷，是全台18处自然保留区中面积最小，因位置关系地下水压不强，地下水量少，泥浆喷出堆积于喷泥口，形成「喷泥锥」，该区具有较密集且固定的喷火口，各个喷泥口喷发的泥浆中，岩屑的颗粒粗细、泥浆含水量、黏稠度，都各不相同。
