2 weeks ago I went to National History Museum to look at Michelangelo's work. Although most of the work is replica, it's good to know more about this great artist.

上上周我跑去歷史博物館看文藝復興巨匠再現 - 米開朗基羅特展。之前網路上有人介紹，就讓我好想目睹喔! 雖然都是複製品，(只有少數的米開朗基羅真跡)，但是能了解這位偉大的雕刻家(米開朗基羅不承認自己是畫家)也是相當值得。

 

This sculpture shows you what Michelangelo looked like. His friend Vasari made the sculpture and drew the painting. It is said that Michelangelo wasn't confident about his look because when he was young, a man broke Michelangelo's nose during a fight. When I saw this painting, a woman standing next to me said that Michelangelo looked like Van Gogh. What do you think?

這就是米開朗基羅。這是他好友弗泰拉幫他畫/雕刻的。聽說米開朗基羅很自卑，因為他年輕時有回跟人起衝突，被人打斷鼻樑，從此高挺的鼻子就變得塌塌的，所以米開朗基羅不喜歡畫自己。當時看這些畫作和雕刻品時，旁邊有人說米開朗基羅跟梵谷有點像，你們覺得呢?

 

This is a painting by Raphael. (The tour guide said that Michelangelo didn't like Raphael or Leonardo da Vinci. Anyhow, in this painting, the man who pointed the sky is Plato, and the guy who pointed down is Aristotle.  Raphael drew Michelangelo in this picture, too, but I can't remember which one was Michelangelo.

這是拉斐爾畫的。(聽說米開朗基羅不喜歡拉斐爾、達文西) 畫中指著上天的是柏拉圖，指著地下的是亞里斯多德。米開朗基羅好像被畫在左下角，不是很清楚。

 

Michelangelo drew this painting at the age of 13.

這是米開朗基羅13歲時的作品。大師就是大師。

 

 

The Last Judgment by Michelangelo.

Michelangelo hated to be called a painter. He believed that he was a  sculptor throughout his life, but many people forced him to do some things he didn't want to do, like painting. The funny thing is, Michelangelo originally drew all naked men in this painting. After Michelangelo passed away, the Pope asked Michelangelo's friend to draw drapes on those men in this painting.

這是最後的審判。其實米開朗基羅終其一生都被要求做自己不願意做的事情，而且很多都胎死腹中。因為時常因為經費不足，才做到一半的作品就停擺。而這幅畫好像是教宗要求米開朗基羅畫的。米開朗基羅覺得自己是雕刻家，不是畫家，所以心不甘情不願畫這幅最後的審判(這只是局部)。有趣的是，米開朗基羅畫中的人物全部都裸體，因為米開朗基羅很喜歡人體展現的力道那種美感，偏偏主教看了就頭昏，米開朗基羅過世後，教宗就吩咐他人(好像是米開朗基羅的好友)將私密部位全畫上布料。

 

 

 Michelangelo drew this for Cavalieri to show his love for him. In this painting, you can see that the eagle would do anything to nourish the man's heart to keep him alive.

米開朗基羅為卡瓦列力所畫的素描。在這幅畫裡面，你可以看到一隻老鷹，為一位男子噙了許多食物來補他的心。這也表示米開朗基羅對卡瓦列力的愛就宛如老鷹對這位男子。不過，其實我也不太清楚到底卡瓦列力是男是女。

 

 

This is a sculpture discovered in Greece. When it was found, someone asked Michelangelo to build the lost part. Michelangelo refused to do so, as he felt that the remaining part was already perfect.

這是西元前的希臘作品，出土後，曾有人請米開朗基羅將殘缺處補齊，米開朗基羅認為這作品已經很完美，可見米開朗基羅衷於原著。

 

 

Michelangelo made this at the age of 17!

半人馬之戰這件浮雕成品是米開朗基羅17歲的作品喔!

 

Michelangelo made this great work  - "Pieta" - at the age of 24. However, when this work came out, lots of people criticized Michelangelo because Mary looked too young for Jesus. It is said that Michelangelo's mother passed away when he was only 6 years old, so maybe the image of his mom always remained young. What is ridiculous is that some people asserted that they made this sculpture. To prove that he was the person who made this sculpture, Michelangelo carved his name on Mary's drape. This is the only piece that got Michelangelo's name.

米開朗基羅24 歲完成這件巨作 - 聖殤，可是卻有人批評聖母太年輕了。據說可能是因為米開朗基羅6歲就喪母，所以母親在他心目中始終是很年輕的樣子。但是後來這作品被人說是他人作品，米開 朗基羅一生氣，當晚就在聖母瑪利亞的衣服上方刻上自己的名字，也是唯一一件有米開朗基羅親筆刻名的作品。

 

Michelangelo made this work 6 days before he passed away. (See how hard-working he was?) Obviously you can see that Jesus was carrying his mother on his back.

米開朗基羅過世6天前的作品。這作品是耶穌背著母親。

這是酒神。米開朗基羅第一件以真人尺寸完成的作品。

 

David's head by Michelangelo. Now I finally know this David is the guy who fought against the giant Goliath!

米開朗基羅的大衛頭像。我終於知道原來大衛指的是那個跟巨人Goliath 搏鬥的大衛啊!

 

Did you notice the heart-shaped pupils?

是否注意到瞳孔是心形?

 

This is "the Dying Slave".To be honest, the sculpture's face reminds me of girls in Alphonse Mucha's paintings.

這是瀕死的奴隸。坦白說，這張臉很像女孩子的臉，讓我聯想起慕夏。

 

 

文藝復興時期的畫家都是這樣臨摹的，這作品呈現當時的畫家學徒畫聖母瑪利亞的景象。

This is how artists in the Renaissance Period practiced drawing. In this picture, you can see that a painter was trying to draw Mary and baby Jesus.

 

 

Apprentices in the Renaissance Period not only had to do chores but also practice. First and foremost they had to do lots of sketches.

學徒不僅負責打掃，他們在學堂首先要奠定好的基本功的就是素描。

 

When Michelangelo was 13 years old, he made a sculpture of an old man. A man saw this sculpture, and he praised Michelangelo for doing a good job. However, he also reminded Michelangelo of the fact that most elderly people didn't have good teeth. So on that night, Michelangelo took off most of the sculpture's teeth. What Michelangelo did impressed the man.

這畫是在描述13歲的米開朗基羅將大人的畫聽進去，他原本作一件雕刻，那老人的牙齒很完整，但是大人對米開朗基羅說，你做的很好，但是老人牙齒怎麼會是完整的呢? 當晚米開朗基羅就將老人的牙齒打斷只剩兩顆。大人因此覺得孺子可教也。

 

 

I never knew what this symbols, but when I looked at this painting, the tour guide told us that Michelangelo drew Genesis. This part of the painting shows you Adam's hand and God's hand. When God touched Adam, Adam was like giving a real life.

我一直不知道這是什麼意思，原來是創世紀裡頭的亞當與上帝呀，就這樣輕輕地指尖一碰觸，彷彿一切都領悟了。

 

I really enjoyed this exhibition, and hopefully I will see Michelangelo's authentic work one day.

還滿喜歡這個文藝復興巨匠再現: 米開朗基羅特展，真希望有朝一日有機會親眼目睹米開朗基羅的真跡。
