1. Accelerate 加速；促进

 

We came up with a plan to accelerate progress. 我们拟定了一个加速进度的方案。

Let’s focus on accelerating revenue growth. 我们要专注在营业额成长上。

 

2. Approach做法、接洽

 

Approach当名词是方式；做法：I'd advise another approach. 我会建议另一种做法。

 

当动词是著手处理，或接洽：

 

How would you approach this problem? 你会怎么处理这个问题？

The company has approached the supermarket chain. 公司已经接洽了那间连锁公司。

 

3. Boost 提高；促进

 

Boost 可以当名词也可以当动词，薪水大幅调高是 a big boost in salary，提高士气是morale-boosting，提升业绩是boost sales。

 

4. Delegate 任命；委派；授权

 

这个字当名词是代表，当动词这样用：

 

We have delegated Jane to attend the meeting. 我们请Jane代表参加会议。

The director delegated him to make the decision. 总监已授权由他做出决定。

 

5. Driven 受到…驱使的

 

Driven可以形容一个人有决心、为达到目标而努力。

She is driven. 她很有决心。

 

- driven接在名词后面，表示受到某事的影响、驱使。

The team is data-driven. 团队重视资料。

We are looking for talents who are challenge-driven. 我们在找热爱挑战的人才。

 

6. Deliberate 蓄意的，深思熟虑的

 

deliberate有几个常见的意思、用法：

 

I assure you it was not deliberate. 我向你保证那不是故意的。

A deliberate decision 深思熟虑的决定。

 

It'd be better that we set up a meeting to deliberate on possible solutions. 

我们最好召开一个会议仔细商讨这个议题。

 

7. Due date 期限

 

我们常说的deadline，比较适合用在沟通自己、内部的时限，或和合作方、厂商之间的沟通，请老板或客户配合的时限，用due date比较委婉。

 

8. Execution 执行

 

实际进行工作常用的字，Excellent execution! 指的是完美、漂亮的执行了一项工作。

The plan was sound, the execution was poor. 计划很周延，执行很糟。

 

9. Expand 扩张

 

Expand可以是扩大实体：

 

We are considering expanding the store. 我们在考虑扩大店面。

扩大东南亚市场，用expand South East Asia market

Expand也可以是比较抽象的扩大，例如expand the idea让想法有更多细节。

 

10. Follow through 进行到底

 

Follow through有两种意思，一指打网球或高尔夫球时把动作做足，二指将某件事进行到底，最常用于执行计划上。

 

He decided to follow through with his original plan.

他决定把最初的计划执行完成。

 

11. Follow up 跟进

 

开完重要会议后，许多事情需要后续跟进，这时用的就是片语follow up，我们说Follow something up对某事采取进一步行动，或名词follow-up，This meeting is a follow-up to the one we had last time. 这次是上次的后续会议。

 

She followed up her interview with a thank you email.

面试结束后她寄出一封感谢函给面试者。

 

12. Gain 增加；收益

 

How much do we expect to gain from the deal? 我们预期这笔交易可以获利多少？

 

Gain当名词用时是收益、利润。

We see gains of five to ten percent this quarter. 这一季我们预估成长百分之五到十。

 

13. Generate 产生，引起

 

Generate某事通常是为了生产、创造。

 

I hope that the discussion will generate some new ideas. 希望讨论可以引发一些新想法。

The ability to generate profit is crucial. 创造获利是关键的能力。

 

14. Kickoff 开始；开赛 顺序有误

 

Kickoff原意是足球赛的开球，商场上是新计划、新活动的启动，例如：the product kickoff产品上市

the kick off of a charity campaign慈善活动开幕

上市前、启动前的会议，就叫kickoff meeting

 

15. Leverage 影响力；杠杆作用

 

工作上我们永远在想怎么用最省力的方式发挥最大效用，leverage就是这个意思。

His position gives him leverage to get things done. 他的职位让他有影响力来达成事情。

This approach provides better leverage. 这个做法能发挥比较大的杠杆效应。

 

16. Maximize 最大化

 

Some airlines have ​cancelled less ​popular ​routes in an ​effort to maximize ​profits. 

一些航空公司取消较不热门的航线，以让收益最大化。

常常听到的还有Maximize efficiency效率极大化。

 

17. Monitor 监控，监督

 

Monitor除了是监视器，当动词就是监督，有仔细掌控的意思。

Please monitor the progress carefully. 请谨慎地监督进度。

 

18. Showcase 展现

 

Showcase第一个意思是橱窗，外商中常用它的第二个意思，展现。

I'd like to see you showcase more leadership. 我希望你能展现更多领导能力。

 

19. 缩小Revisit 重新审视；重新考虑

 

字面上的意思是重游，这个字在职场上也很好用：

 

Let's revisit this list before we make the decision. 做决定之前我们再重新审视这张表一次。

We did agree to hire more people, but we might need to revisit this now. 我们的确同意聘雇更多人，但是现在可能需要重新考虑。

 

20. Roundup 综述；摘要

 

We'll start with a roundup of each team's performance this month. 我们从本月各组表现的综合摘要开始。

 

21. Scenario 情境；方案

 

Let me suggest a possible scenario. 我想建议一个可能的方案。

常常听到the best-case scenario/the worst-case scenario，意思就是最好的状况/最坏的状况。

The worst-case scenario would be for the branch to be closed down. 最坏的情况是关闭分部。

Now that we've seen the negative angle, let's look at the best-case scenario. 

可能的负面情况，我们来看看最好的状况。

 

22.  Specify 明确提出；列出

 

希望有清楚确定的资讯，就要会这个字

 

Could you specify what was wrong with the program? 你可以举出程式有那些问题吗？

The contract specifies the amount and material needed. 合约中列出了所需的数量与素材。

 

23. Momentum 动力；势头

 

谈论销售或行销活动经常会提到create momentum，意思就是创造声势。

 

24. -wise …方面，从…来说

 

这个字不那么正式，但是讨论的时候灵活应用，有一种即兴趣味。

这些用法常听到，你也可以尝试组合自己的-wise。

We like the shop locationwise, but rentwise it’s beyond us. 

我们喜欢这个店面的地点，但是付不起房租。
