MIS專業在美國的高就業率，使得MIS專業成為中國留美學生申請的熱門專業之一。MIS ( Management Information Systems ) 集管理科學、信息科學、系統科學及計算機科學為一體，主要研究企業信息管理活動的全過程，以便提供有效的管理信息和各類決策信息，輔助企業進行現代化管理。

美國大學MIS專業是屬於商科與計算機科學的交叉學科，因而有些學校的該專業是商學院和計算機學院合辦的；也有部分學校將該專業設置在商學院，有的學校則設置在工學院。由於所屬學院的不同，研究側重的方向也有所不同。申請者在申請的時候可以根據自己的興趣來選擇院校以及研究方向。

美國大學MIS的教育主要涉及以下一些專業領域：

  • 信息系統(Information Systems )：包括Data Communication, Database, Programming Language, Client / Server Computing, System Analysis and Design等內容。
  • 管理科學：包括Mathematical Programming, Optimization, Operation Research等內容。
  • 生產運營管理：包括Decision Theory, Organization Theory等內容。
  • 統計學(Statistics )
  • 其它專業領域：包括 Marketing, Finance, Management, Accounting, Business Law, Economics 等。

在申請要求方面：GPA最低要求是3.0，申請名校建議是有3.5+；大多數院校對於語言的要求是托福在90以上，部分院校商學院下的該專業對於語言要求較高，一般建議是托福100+/雅思7.0+；部分學校GRE和GMAT成績都接受或者有些院校兩者選一，一般建議是GRE315+/GMAT700+。對於申請者的背景要求，不同院校要求不一樣，建議最好是有計算機背景；申請者如果有一定的工作經驗，在申請中會比較佔優勢。

在院校方面：麻省理工學院、卡耐基梅隆大學、德克薩斯大學奧斯汀分校、亞利桑那大學、明尼蘇達大學雙城分校、賓夕法尼亞大學、紐約大學、斯坦福大學、馬里蘭大學帕克分校、喬治亞理工學院、喬治亞州立大學等都是不錯的選擇。

Admissions Deadlines:

  • Domestic Applicants: Fall: January 15
  • International Applicants: Fall: January 15

Admissions Requirements

  • For domestic students a Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • For international students an US comparable Bachelors degree.

The MIS department requires that all international applicants calculate their entrance GPA using the University of Arizona, Graduate College - GPA Calculator. PLUS applicants will be asked to upload a screen shot of the GPA results during the application process.

  • GPA score of 3.0 or higher (for the last 60 units completed)
  • GMAT or GRE score (No minimum score requirement. Test must have been taken within the last five years of intended term of enrollment)
  • TOEFL minimum score: 80 internet based testing. (for international applicants only who have not graduated from a U.S.A. institution. Test must have been taken within two years of the intended term of enrollment).
  • Copies of official transcripts / academic records
  • Personal Statement that states your career objectives and how you expect your MIS graduate education will enhance your career objectives. We welcome students with a wide range of interests and industry, social and academic aspirations.
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume which includes work experience with dates of employment
  • Completed Graduate College Application

Note

  • If you do not have a sufficient business background, you may be required to take up to two business courses. You will be informed of this requirement upon admittance.
  • Before joining our program, students should have experience in computer and Web programming. Students should have knowledge and experience with (1) Java and (2) JSP and Servlets, PHP or .NET/J2EE. Knowledge of database connectivity via ODBC or JDBC is also recommended.
