Yang, a 44-year-old entrepreneur who has no political experience, announced his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination back in late 2017.He is described as “someone even few political junkies had heard of until very recently”.

According to Election Betting Odds, a site for live election odds, Andrew Yang ranked sixth on chance of winning the US presidency in 2020, with a rate of 3.1%. And on the Democratic Primary list, Yang surpassed Warren and Booker at 5.6%.

“Holy cow—we did it! We reached 65,000 individual donors more than two months before the May 15th deadline! Not only did we raise 65,000 individual donations, we also raised over $750,000 in the last month. Incredible! Thank you so much for everything you did to make it happen,” Yang wrote on his website for 2020 US president campaign on March 12.

“This all but assures that I will be in the DNC Primary Debates in June/July. We were at only 15,000 donors in February. We received 50,000 new donors in a month!”

65,000 unique donors are required to be qualified for the first round of the Democratic primary debate for US presidency in 2020.

He received 75,780 donors by March 19 while he targets to hit the debate stage with 200,000 individual donors.

Media said that most of the country still doesn't know his name, though he has reason to believe that's changing.

"I needed to declare early to introduce myself to the American people. And that's what I'm doing," he told NBC News. "Still, the majority of Americans have never heard of Andrew Yang, so I have a lot of work to do. But we are very excited by the progress of the campaign and we 100 percent think we can compete and win the White House next year."

Profile of Andrew Yang

·Born: Schenectady, New York

·Undergraduate: Brown University

·Previous roles: Founder of Venture for America, Manhattan Prep CEO, Stargiving.com VP, corporate attorney at Davis Polk & Wardwell

In 2011, Yang started Venture for America (VFA), an effort to try to prevent elite colleges and universities from funneling graduates toward safe options (like jobs in finance, management consulting, or big law) by enlisting teams of fellows to move to cities across America and work for local startups.

As detailed in a 2013 New York Times profile, the group offers recent graduates a five-week boot camp on entrepreneurship, and then sets them up with startup jobs at companies that “must be less than 10 years old and employ less than 100 people. Starting salaries are $33,000 to $38,000.” The target fellows are people from selective schools who could easily be making six figures at other jobs straight out of college.

Slogan: Humanity first

Yang’s top three platforms are universal basic income, Medicare for all and human-centered capitalism. His proposal for universal basic income, his central campaign issue, is grounded in a belief that millions of jobs will be wiped away due to automation.

Yang would implement a Universal Basic Income, “The Freedom Dividend,” of $1,000/month, $12,000 a year for every American adult over the age of 18. This is independent of one’s work status or any other factor. This would enable all Americans to pay their bills, educate themselves, start businesses, be more creative, stay healthy, relocate for work, spend time with their children, take care of loved ones.

A Universal Basic Income at this level would permanently grow the economy by 12.56 to 13.10 percent—or about $2.5 trillion by 2025—and it would increase the labor force by 4.5 to 4.7 million people. Putting money into people’s hands and keeping it there would be a perpetual boost and support to job growth and the economy.

Andrew Yang: “Healthcare should be a basic right for all Americans. Right now, if you get sick you have two things to worry about – how to get better and how to pay for it. Too many Americans are making terrible, impossible choices between paying for healthcare and other needs. We need to provide high-quality healthcare to all Americans and a single-payer system is the most efficient way to accomplish that. It will be a massive boost to our economy as people will be able to start businesses and change jobs without fear of losing their health insurance.”
