Have you seen the shadows of the clouds? He asked.

An ancient boy from an ancient world.

When clouds soared by, the birds they became

A whole new species, a whole new name.

Have you seen the shadows of the clouds?  He demanded.

A king of man, a man of kings.

When clouds roared pass the plains, they became

A whole new world, where ice has no name.

Like water falling over the canyon,

Like horses galloping across the plain.

A world where freedom reigned, where men did not deign

To become the God of the Land, the Maker of Men.

Have you seen the shadows of the clouds?  He questioned.

A wizened old man in a faraway land.

Where no more is seen the beauteous things

Where the clouds became things of sky, land and sea.

Have you seen the shadows of the clouds?  He wondered.

Yes, I have, from the window of an airplane.

Where the nature of beauty is no longer a mystery,

Where the heart of Men is untouched by the wonders he sees.

Like sunshine over a barren land,

Like raindrops which flood, and rush, and kill.

A world where darkness reign over men who deigned

To become the God of the Land, the Maker of Men.
