梵谛冈前财务总管、澳洲籍枢机主教派尔（George Pell）因性侵两名年约13岁的唱诗班男孩，13日被判处6年徒刑。77岁的派尔是梵蒂冈位阶第3高的人物，也是过去被定罪的天主教神职人员当中，层级最高的一位。派尔曾侵犯许多人，在法庭外的受害者听到判决后，落下了眼泪。

《路透社》指出，此次宣判受到全球注目，也被转播。检方表示，派尔1996年在墨尔本一座大教堂的房间内性侵2名男孩，强迫他们做出猥亵行为，他1997年又虐待其中一名男孩。
派尔出生于澳洲维多利亚省的巴拉瑞特市（Ballarat），曾在墨尔本与雪梨担任总主教。他于2014年受到教宗方济各重用，开始掌管梵蒂冈的财务，跃升为梵蒂冈位阶第三的枢机主教。派尔被踢爆，1970年代就曾于教会活动中在泳池内性侵儿童。
